RYD Motorsports

RYD Motorsports is a fully custom automotive shop and Racing Team forged from the passion of RYD Clothing Co and the RYD brand. In late 2014, founders Shelby Friesen and Kyle Bookey began their venture to chase their passion in cars and racing. These boys have combined their expertise to bring their dream to life. They now specialize in exquisitely insane automotive builds and any custom mechanics, fabrication, CAD design, and anything else they can get their hands on. The RYD Motorsports Team enjoys a challenge in the shop equally as much as they do a challenge on the track. You can catch Shelby on the drift course, Kyle on the drag, and who knows who will be driving their upcoming projects – a rally car and a trophy truck for season 2016. Follow them on social media and stay up to date with their builds and upcoming events. They will be competing throughout Western Canada and the United States.

This season Shelby will be running a 1990 S13 240sx. This was the car of choice for a few reasons. its lightweight shell has great over-all balance as well as quite impressive handling. being a very popular and inexpensive car means spare parts are always easy to track down. not to mention the massive storefront of aftermarket parts available. The spacious engine bay is also a nice accommodation for a wide variety of motors.

This season Kyle will be racing a 1976 Ford F100. This truck was chosen for its frame and heavy duty drivetrain components right from the factory. The engine bay and motor mount layout makes the install of a big block as simple as a bolt in swap. Although the truck is old and the task of finding parts may seem daunting to some, the volume of these trucks produced over the years makes parts relatively easy to acquire. Another benefit is the engine and transmission combo of choice, which was originally at home in a 1970 mustang makes for an extremely strong aftermarket in the high performance world.
